The best thing about working at the trading floor

The learning never stops. That’s why I wanted to continue my journey with Nordea Markets.

By Marja Junell, Future Finance Professional intern 2016

During the summer – as part of the Future Finance Professional internship programme – I worked in Institutional sales team, selling bonds to our institutional customers. The work felt surreal at first when big trades were executed fast by chat. At quiet times I concentrated on learning more on fixed income assets, but also from other things.

The best thing about working at the trading floor is that it’s full of people with different expertise. There is always someone you can go to with questions and people are happy to share their knowledge.

The work challenges me

At the end of the summer I got offered an opportunity to try my skills on financial markets at Economic research team. Currently I’m responsible for the Finnish morning report published daily. The work challenges me to keep a close eye on the markets and think deeper on the macro economic drivers that affect asset prices.

I’m a big fan of rates market, but this work has enabled me to familiarize myself better with wider variety of assets like FX and equities. Currently I have worked in this team less than a month, but already gained knowledge that will be a great asset for me in my future career.

Nordea Markets offers young people opportunity to try different roles, so that one can find the role that feels like natural fit and gain extensive knowledge of the industry at the same time. The learning never stops.
