Challenges and opportunities Sara faced as an intern

The 3 months long internship at Nordea Equity Research has come to an end for Sara - see why it's been invaluable; challenging, exciting and rewarding

By Sara Stegare, Summer Intern at Equity Research Sweden.

With a new set of skills and deep insight to Equity Research and Nordea, it is time to say thank you for a great summer. These three months have been an invaluable learning experience where I have been able to get exposure to many interesting projects and to work alongside many, very talented analysts. If I should use three words to describe my internship I would use the words:

Exciting, insightful and rewarding!

Contributing from day 1

During my internship at Equity Research I have faced a wide range of challenges. Already in my first week, I assisted an analyst with a coverage report on a telecommunications company. Tasks were of various kinds; ranging from producing population pyramids, to map spectrum auctions and key market players in South America as well as to find information regarding president elections and natural disasters.

Looking back, it could not have been a better way to start off. I learned a lot. It was very interesting topics and it was exciting to be able to contribute with text and data at such an early stage of the internship. Some of it even ended up on the first page of the report!

Many of the challenges have been solved in collaboration with the other interns. For example, Emil and I have worked closely with the Construction & Real Estate team on initial coverage and commissioned research reports. Together, we have deep-dived into companies, collecting and analysing data, in order to produce a first version of various sections in the reports. The final work ended up being company overview, market overview and product portfolio. The result was a combination of high level of teamwork and engagement with a lingering appetite for more.

Definately one of the highlights

As a part of the Quant team, all interns were involved in one of the major projects: to investigate how Nordic companies perform on ESG-factors. Being highly relevant to many companies today, it has been interesting to be involved in this progressive engagement. I truly look forward to seeing the outcome of it this fall.

Another very interesting task was to build a Nordic screening model which ranks companies by dividend yield development. With a quantitative background and great interest to improve my analytical skills, it was definitely one of the highlights!

If the wide spectrum of challenges and opportunities sounds interesting to you, I would urge you to apply for an internship, for sure. It gives you a great insight to Nordea Markets and in this case to Equity Research – it’s an opportunity to get to know Nordea’s community and to develop your research and analytical skills – not to mention a valuable network. In addition, this internship will give you an opportunity to work on meaningful and relevant tasks in an intense, yet very supportive, environment.

… and you could be one of our next interns!
