It is truly unbelievable that our summer internship at Nordea Markets already has come to an end. Looking back at our eight weeks long stay, we are deeply thankful for the experiences and opportunities we have had. In this post, we will describe why Nordea Markets is a remarkable place to spend the summer.
Our projects have been at the trading floor within the FICC (Fixed Income, Currencies and Commodities) division, but we have often been invited to visit the other desks. It is important to mention that we have had a high degree of freedom both in terms of selecting projects and workloads. One of the biggest projects has been to build a model on the EURNOK foreign exchange rate estimating a fair value and creating a trading strategy based on it. Next, we have created several benchmarking tools on different customer segments and across product lines. We have also had the opportunity to improve our programming skills by coding customer follow-up models for the business. Other projects have ranged from doing oil demand analysis to building market sentiment indicators.
Nordea Markets also arranged the FICC Nordic Case Competition for all students employed in the Nordic countries. We cooperated in transnational teams, and had access to expert help from dedicated mentors. The winners were awarded a trip to Stockholm to present the results in front of FICC management.
Nordea Market is the biggest financial player in the Nordics and possesses many of the greatest analysts, traders and salesmen in the industry. One would expect them to be too busy to pay attention to interns. Quite on the opposite, they have consulted us and cooperated with us on projects, spent hours after work discussing markets with us, and even joined sporting events and social gatherings.
We also took part in Summer Academy – a program that Nordea Markets arranges every year. Summer Academy is designed specifically for summer interns, graduates and part-time employees and comprises several modules with a combination of interactive lectures and social events. In addition, we have had access to an online learning platform for banking giving us invaluable knowledge in a very exciting field.
All in all, Nordea Markets is an ideal place for those who are ambitious, have passion for financial markets and wants a profound look into how the best professionals work in practice.
