Last week was a good mix of hard work, inspirational lectures and social activities with Nordea employees. Our projects are progressing and our knowledge about finance is increasing day by day.
The highlight of week 5 was definitely Thursday’s Summer Academy. We were lucky enough to have two thorough lectures from senior employees in Derivatives Sales and Asset Sales & Investment Products where we dived deeper into new areas of finance. After the lecture, it became clear to us that Nordea offers a wide range of structured products that can spice up your investment portfolio. When it comes to finance it is (almost) only your imagination that can stop you from coming up with the best solutions (we now figure).
After the session we all went to enjoy the sunny weather in Frognerparkern, which is only a 2 minute walk away from our office at Majorstuen. Is there any better way to enjoy the end of the week than by having a barbeque in the park with great colleagues? We think not!
After the barbeque we were challenged by some representatives from the Shipping office in a game of “Kubb”. It was an easy match, and of course(!) we ended up with the victory after an embarrassing performance from Shipping 😉
We are still working on our projects and we are progressing a lot every day. Anders and I (Asbjørn) are still helping the Risk Advisory team with an industry benchmark that will be useful in future customer meetings. The challenge in this project is not only to find the financial data but also to find the best way to graphically present the results. (Anders has considered hiring his own Intern that can help us with the “creative graphical design”-part …).
Josefine and Christopher Robin are still working on two projects simultaneously. Since they are helping the research team with the morning report they have increased their knowledge about the drivers in the markets significantly. So now, we are definitely making headway 🙂
This week will bring us a new challenge – we will participate in the annual FICC case competition. To make the case competition a little extra challenging – and exciting – the teams of interns from Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway will be mixed and we have to cooperate across boarder lines through Skype. By the end of the week we will present our solution in front of senior Nordea employees. The team that comes up with the best solution gets to present their solution in Stockholm.
Stay tuned, and figure out who wins the FICC Case Competition (I’m going for it!).
